BBC Newshour has been covering the war on Tigray. The programs are available for some time after which they are not accessible or are deleted. Tigrayans are, as we speak, under a communications blackout. We are making these coverages available here hoping that Tigrayans will appreciate to hear what was said about the war once they are reconnected, which we hope will be soon.


Tigray: aid delayed amid reports fighting continues (04 Dec 2020)
Continued fighting in many parts of Ethiopia’s Tigray region is hindering efforts to deliver aid, according to the United Nations. Nearly 50,000 refugees from the fighting have fled across the border to Sudan. Their camps are believed to be running out of food.
Ethiopia: TPLF says it’s still fighting government troops (30 Nov 2020)
The leader of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front says his troops are still fighting against the military near the city of Mekelle. It has not been possible to independently verify either side’s statements.

The International Red Cross says hospitals in the Tigray state capital in northern Ethiopia are running dangerously low on medical supplies to care for the wounded, following three weeks of fighting.

The leader of the rebellion in Tigray region against Ethiopia’s central government, Debretsion Gebremichael, has said his Tigray People’s Liberation Front forces will fight on despite reports that federal troops have taken control of the Tigrayan capital.

Ethiopia’s Tigray crisis: Army ‘takes regional capital of Mekelle’ (28 Nov 2020)
The Ethiopian prime minister, Abiy Ahmed and the Army Chief of Staff, Birhanu Jula, have issued statements claiming that federal government troops are now in total control of Mekelle, the capital of Tigray province.

Ethiopian PM meets AU envoys (27 Nov 2020)
Ethiopia’s prime minister has met three African Union envoys who are visiting the country to try to bring an end to the conflict in Tigray. Abiy Ahmed has rejected all international invention, and will not allow the envoys to travel to Tigray. We hear from the Sudanese border, where around 50,000 refugees have already fled the conflict, and from Laetitia Bader of Human Rights Watch on what needs to happen now.

Ethiopian army ordered to attack Tigray capital (26 Nov 2020)
Ethiopia’s PM Abiy Ahmed has ordered the federal army to begin an offensive against the capital of Tigray province. We hear from Mekelle, and also speak to the UN’s High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet, who demands protection for civilians and access for humanitarian agencies.

Abiy Ahmed appears poised to send forces into the regional capital, Mekelle, as international calls for a peaceful resolution to the civil conflict seem to fall on deaf ears.

Tigrayan youth group accused of massacre in Ethiopia (24 Nov 2020)
The Ethiopian Human Rights Commission says the group stabbed, bludgeoned and burned to death non-Tigrayan residents of the town of Mai Kadra two weeks ago, with the collusion of local forces. We’ll hear from the head of the Commission.

Abiy Ahmed’s Tigray ultimatum runs out (17 Nov 2020)
A 3-day ultimatum issued by Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to the ruling TPLF in Tigray province has expired. Is there any chance the TPLF will surrender – and if not, is civil war now unstoppable? Are neighbouring countries already involved? And can the international community help pull Ethiopia back from the brink and avoid a much more serious humanitarian crisis?

Conflict in northern Ethiopia spreads (14 Nov 2020)
Residents of the Eritrean capital, Asmara, have reported loud explosions in the city. The cause is unclear but it comes hours after a senior official in the Tigray region of neighbouring Ethiopia threatened missile strikes on Eritrea. We’ll hear from Tigray and from neighbouring Sudan, where thousands of people are seeking refuge from the fighting.

A senior Ethiopian government official says the Tigray People’s Liberation Front leadership will be ‘brought to book’ and vows to defeat them militarily. It comes after reports of mass killings in one town. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has accused forces loyal to Tigray’s leaders of the massacre – accusations they deny. The UN is warning of possible ‘war crimes’ in Ethiopia, with human rights chief Michelle Bachelet calling for an inquiry. Tigrayans warn that Ethiopia is on the brink of civil war.

    Thank you so much for all the efforts on exposing and documenting the truth.
    One correction that you should admit, the Tigray People Librarian Front, TPLF is a legal elected and legitimate government of #Tigray region. Hence, kindly stop using the unnecessary words like defiant, …….
